ASML had to deal with a short-term outage

The Dutch company ASML is the world’s leading manufacturer of lithography scanners, so the rhythm of its work is important for the entire semiconductor industry. On Friday, the company encountered a large-scale failure in the operation of its information infrastructure around the world, which was resolved on the same day; the consequences of the incident are still being assessed.

Representatives of ASML explained to Bloomberg that the problem in the functioning of the corporate IT infrastructure arose on Friday morning, but was resolved in the afternoon. Some of the company’s employees, however, were forced to work from home. Local media reported that equipment assembly and office operations, including interactions with suppliers, were affected as a result of the outage. The causes of the failure are currently being established.

As ASML representatives explained in an interview with Reuters, the functionality of all systems has now been fully restored. Note that the company’s last quarterly report was published several hours ahead of schedule as a result of an error, and its content had a significant negative impact on the stock market. It is still difficult to understand whether these problems are links in the same chain.
