The new king of gaming processors has arrived – global sales of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D chip have begun. The new processor has received accolades from industry press for its outstanding gaming capabilities.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D offers eight Zen 5 cores with support for 16 virtual threads. The base processor frequency is 4.7 GHz, the maximum is 5.2 GHz. The new product has 64 MB of additional second-generation 3D V-Cache cache. It differs in that it is located under the CCD (Core Complex Die) crystal with computing cores, and not on top of this block, as was the case with Ryzen X3D chips of previous generations. In total, the new product has 104 MB of cache memory (8 MB L2, 32 MB L3 + 64 MB 3D V-Cache). The nominal power consumption of the processor is 120 W.
According to reviews, the performance of the new chip in games is on average 3.4% higher than its predecessor. With Intel’s new flagship, the Core Ultra 9 285K, the gap is 13% in favor of the new AMD processor. Also, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 7% faster than the previous generation flagship Core i9-14900K. When it comes to application performance, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 18% more efficient than its predecessor. In some applications, the increase reaches 25 to 30%.
According to reviewers, the processor has only one drawback – its high price. The chip is offered for $479, 30 dollars more expensive than its predecessor Ryzen 7 7800X3D at launch.
As the VideoCardz portal notes, there is no shortage of supplies of the new Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor in stores. For example, large German retailers Alternate and Mindfactory published photos with a large number of new processors in warehouses.
