Apple will allow you to share the location of lost gadgets through Find My

Apple will soon give users the ability to send the location of lost items—an iPhone, Macbook, or any AirTag item—through the Find My app. A link to a page with the location of the item can be sent to any person, even if he is not in the sender’s contact list.

MacRumors discovered an updated version of the hidden object service in the beta version of iOS 18.2 for developers. The function, Apple clarified, will help in finding lost items – the location of such an item can be sent to a taxi driver or airline employee.

The Find My app in the iOS 18.2 developer kit has a new Share Item Location setting that generates a link to the location of a missing item. It can be opened on any device, including third-party devices, to try to track an object. The link stops working after a week, or when the owner finds and picks up his item.

There is an additional option “Send contact information” – this allows any device to connect to the element or open a page that displays a phone number or email address if they were added to the element’s contact page. This way, the person who finds the item will be able to contact its owner. Statistics are available: you can see how many people opened this link.
