Ubisoft shared details of the biggest update for Star Wars Outlaws and replaced the creative director of the game

The launch of the open-world action adventure Star Wars Outlaws from Massive Entertainment did not live up to Ubisoft’s hopes, and the studio decided to radically improve the game – what they will do for this, the new leader of the development team said.

As promised, Star Wars Outlaws creative director Julian Gerighty, after completing major work on the game, left to oversee The Division 3 as the series’ executive producer.

The new creative director for Star Wars Outlaws is Drew Rechner, who joined Massive Entertainment back in February 2014 and served as assistant development director for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

According to Rechner, the team is actively listening to user feedback on all current platforms – update 1.3 has already eliminated the most “painful” problems associated with stealth, the camera when traveling on speeders, and more.

However, there is still a lot of work ahead. Rechner reports that the team has identified three main areas for further improvements to the game:

  • Open combat – they want to make it deeper and more exciting so that the game rewards the user for using a tactical approach;
  • Stealth – the authors strive to improve not only the “readability” and predictability of detection, but also to provide gamers with the opportunity to choose an approach in a particular skirmish;
  • Character control – the team hopes to improve responsiveness when climbing and crouching, reliability of shelters and predictability of controls in general.

Rechner added that all three initiatives will be implemented in update 1.4, which Ubisoft calls the largest in the history of Star Wars Outlaws. The patch will be released on November 21 along with the release of the game on Steam and the Wild Card story add-on.

Star Wars Outlaws was released on August 30 on PC (Ubisoft Connect, EGS), PS5, Xbox Series X and S. On Metacritic, the game received far from ideal scores from critics (75-76%) and even lower ratings from users (5.0-6.2).
