“See you in 17 years”: Valve restored historical injustice in Team Fortress 2 just a day after the correction

Before fans could get enough of the color correction for the Blue Team Scout’s pants in the online shooter Team Fortress 2, Valve rolled back the long-awaited change due to unforeseen consequences.

Let’s remember that due to a missing layer in the Photoshop file, since the release of Team Fortress 2 (that is, the last 17 years), the blue Scout has been running around in khaki pants instead of his proper dark blue.

The patch released on October 24 restored historical justice, but brought with it a new problem – due to the correction of the main pants, almost all the alternative ones stopped matching them in color.

Over the past 17 years, cosmetic items have become a significant part of the Team Fortress 2 gaming experience, so Valve took notice of the flaw… and just 24 hours later returned the blue team’s Scout pants to the wrong color.

«Rolled back a fix to the blue Scout’s pants because it conflicted with too many existing cosmetic items,” reads a succinct description of the change on the Team Fortress 2 website.

A full-fledged fix would require adjusting the textures of all alternate pants for the blue Scout. For a company like Valve, this task is certainly doable, but the abundance of cosmetic items definitely makes it difficult.

The reaction of players to the rollback of the change was mixed: some are calling for a movement to support the correct Scout pants, while others are already preparing to wait for a new fix. “See you in 17 years,” underwatermotel predicts.
