Apple has already tested an application for monitoring blood sugar levels on employees

In the future, Apple expects to support technologies for measuring blood pressure and apnea monitoring, as well as non-invasive determination of blood glucose levels in its Watch smartwatches. The latter feature would be useful for people with diabetes, but so far Apple is only testing similar capabilities of its own software on employees.

At the very least, Bloomberg reports on an experiment that took place this year on Apple employees, who had to confirm their predisposition to diabetes by taking medical tests, and then take part in testing an application that allows them to determine the effect of a person’s diet on their blood glucose levels. The actual measurements were carried out using traditional invasive testers; program participants were only required to enter readings into the application along with information about the composition of the dishes they ate before the blood test.

According to Apple, such an application could provide recommendations to people predisposed to diabetes on the choice of certain food products, taking into account their health status. Due to such recommendations, it was possible to delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. Apple did not intend to release the application on the market in this form, but the experience gained during its development could be used in the future when creating technologies for non-invasive monitoring of users’ blood glucose levels. At the moment, experiments with such an application have been suspended, as Apple specialists have focused on other areas of development. It is noted that company employees were involved in similar tests earlier when it came to other health monitoring technologies.
