The South Korean company Samsung may release a smartphone with a flexible display that folds in three in 2025. The portal GSMArena writes about this with reference to industry insiders, who noted that the manufacturer is already ready to produce a new smartphone from a technological point of view, and has also prepared the supply chain for the necessary components.
However, there has been no official communication from the Samsung Mobile Experience division, which is responsible for the production of foldable smartphones, regarding the new device. According to the source, Samsung has reduced orders for foldable OLED panels by more than 10%, as demand for the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 smartphones was below the manufacturer’s expectations.
The report said Samsung Display will ship 12 million foldable OLED panels this year, down 40% from the 20 million flexible displays it shipped last year. This includes displays for Galaxy products as well as devices from other manufacturers such as Xiaomi. Vivo and Oppo.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 account for about 8 million displays, while the manufacturer initially planned to deliver 10 million smartphones. The downward trend in device sales, both new and old, has persisted for several years. One option Samsung could pursue to change this is to release a cheaper Galaxy Flip, which would make the flexible display form factor accessible to a wider audience.
