YouTube has introduced a major update, including video speed adjustments

YouTube has released a major update, introducing new features to its mobile, web and TV apps. There will be more precise control of playback speed and the ability to create collaborative playlists through links and QR codes, TechCrunch reports.

Previously, users could only change playback speed in 0.25x increments. YouTube now allows you to increase or decrease the speed in 0.05x increments by clicking on the “+” or “-” symbols in the new speed control menu. Additionally, we’ve added the sleep timer feature for all users, which was previously available with a YouTube Premium subscription.

Creating collaborative playlists has also become easier. You can share a link or QR code to a playlist with another user, who can add their own photos as thumbnails, or use YouTube’s GenAI tool to generate a thumbnail based on a text query. By the way, later we will add the ability for co-authors to vote for videos in joint playlists and receive feedback.

YouTube has also made some changes to the design of its mobile application. On Android, videos in landscape orientation now have larger thumbnails and larger text, and the player has become more responsive to user actions. It is noted that these functions will appear in iOS a little later.

It’s also worth saying that the mini-player has become more convenient – it can be moved and resized directly while viewing content, the application for TVs has received an improved user interface for short videos (Shorts), and for video creators YouTube has added a set of icons as an additional way to interact with your community.
