The number of subscribers of the satellite operator Starlink has exceeded 4 million users, the company reported on social network X. In May of this year there were 3 million – the company expanded its user base by 1 million in just 4 months.
The Starlink operator, owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, gained its first million subscribers in December 2022, two years after it began testing in the United States. The company doubled this achievement in 10 months – in September 2023 it reported that it had surpassed the 2 million user mark. Starlink did not share its subscriber counting methodology, but it is constantly expanding its satellite Internet presence in different markets and in different industries. The company began operating in Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific Islands. Starlink has agreements with major airlines and cruise ships.
And the US is already showing signs of slowing Starlink subscriber growth. In August, Starlink reported to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that it had “more than 1.4 million customers” in the country, up from 1.3 million in December. Therefore, the operator is forced to attract new customers by all means: for example, until October 6 there is a promotion – the cost of the Starlink antenna has been reduced from $499 to $299.
