Intel customizes Xeon Granite Rapids processors to work with NVIDIA AI accelerators

Intel, according to HPC Wire, is optimizing its latest 6th generation Xeon Granite Rapids server processors specifically for systems that use NVIDIA AI accelerators. Thus, Intel expects to increase sales and improve its financial position.

Ronak Singhal, a senior researcher at Intel, spoke about the new initiative. According to him, NVIDIA is a leader in the AI accelerator market, so Intel works closely with this company. The goal is to provide customers deploying NVIDIA MGX or HGX-based systems with a full range of Xeon processors certified to run on those platforms. “This is just the beginning of the collaboration we will have with NVIDIA over the next year,” Singhal said.

Amid a quarterly loss of $1.61 billion and a sharp drop in share price, Intel is looking for ways to refocus its business on x86 products. The corporation previously announced its intention to customize Xeon 6 processors for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and hinted that it would do the same in the interests of Google Cloud. At the same time, Intel set NVIDIA up by significantly delaying the release of Sapphire Rapids, which are used in DGX H100 systems.
