Some time ago, Nintendo confirmed that it is working on a new portable gaming console, Switch 2, which will be announced before the end of the current fiscal year, that is, before the end of next March. The developers have not officially revealed the characteristics of the device or its design, but a recent major leak gives an idea of what to expect from the new Nintendo console.
According to reports, the Switch 2 will be powered by Nvidia’s Arm processor, which will feature a new GPU based on the Ampere architecture. In addition to this, the device will receive 12 GB of DDR5-7500 RAM and a UFS 3.1 format drive with a capacity of 256 GB.
Nintendo’s new portable console will be larger than the current generation model, as confirmed by leaked photos and 3D models. The developers will equip it with an 8-inch display, which will increase the size of the device as a whole. The design also includes a stand located on the back of the case.
Thanks to the increase in size, the Switch 2 can have a larger battery and a more efficient cooling system than its predecessor. This approach will help improve the device’s battery life or allow the console to consume more power to provide more processing power without sacrificing battery life.
The Switch 2 is expected to receive a significant performance boost over its predecessor. This will be facilitated by a new powerful processor and tripled RAM. Modern Nvidia solutions should also enable access to AI-powered technologies such as Nvidia’s DLSS resolution upscaling tool.
Also, the leaked photos show that the new product will receive updated Joy-Con controllers, which will not only become larger, but will also receive magnetic mounts.
