Following a series of rumors and boasts in financial reports, Electronic Arts shared with the IGN portal the first official image and details of the next serialized Battlefield.
The head of the series, Vince Zampella, confirmed the February rumors: the events of the new Battlefield will unfold in a modern setting, and the project itself is positioned as a return to the roots with matches for 64 players and a class system.
«If you look back to when Battlefield was at its peak, this is the era of modern Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. I think we need to go back to the basics of Battlefield and make it amazing, and then we’ll see,” Zampella said.
Zampella also believes that the next Battlefield has a chance to outsell the upcoming Call of Duty: “We’re not trying to displace Call of Duty. We are doing something different and our own. But yes, the opportunity is definitely there.”
Zampella wouldn’t say anything about the game’s release date, but he confirmed that EA is testing the shooter every week and plans to launch a new community engagement program in 2025.
A quartet of studios are working on the future of Battlefield (its single universe): in early April, Motive Studio joined DICE, Criterion and Ripple Effect (replacing the closed Ridgeline Games).
According to insider Tom Henderson, the release of the next Battlefield is scheduled for October 2025. Previously, the game was officially transferred from the pre-production stage to active development.
