Biostar unexpectedly released a white Radeon RX 580 2048SP – it was new 6 years ago

Biostar today announced the release of a new video card – Radeon RX 580 2048SP White, which stands out with a white design. Let us remember that AMD introduced the Radeon RX 580 back in 2017, and its slightly stripped-down version, the Radeon RX 580 2048SP, in 2018.

The Radeon RX 580 was based on the Polaris 20 XTX graphics chip with 2304 stream processors. It was one of the most popular AMD graphics cards of the last decade. The model was the successor to the Radeon RX 480, which used almost the same GPU (Polaris 10). The card was offered at an excellent price for its capabilities of $229 and had 8 GB of GDDR5 memory on board with support for a 256-bit bus and a bandwidth of 256 GB/s.

As for the Biostar model, it is based on a stripped-down Polaris 20 XL graphics chip with 2048 stream processors, introduced in October 2018. It also has a reduced memory bandwidth, which is 224 GB/s.

In 2024, there is unlikely to be a place for the Biostar Radeon RX 580 White in a gaming PC. The card has a TDP of 150 W and is only about 40% faster than the integrated graphics of the Radeon 780M (according to the 3DMark Time Spy test). Modern graphics cards are not only more energy efficient, but also support more advanced graphics technologies, such as ray tracing or advanced video encoding algorithms (AV1). In addition, Polaris generation graphics cards are no longer part of the main line of graphics accelerators for which AMD releases drivers, as the company has shifted its focus to supporting RDNA graphics.

The solution from Biostar is made in white. The card is equipped with a cooling system, which includes two fans and a radiator with two heat-conducting pipes. For connection, the card uses the PCI Express 3.0 x16 interface. The card is equipped with two DisplayPort 1.4a connectors and one HDMI 2.0b connector.
