Apple ID will turn into Apple Account in September

In September, Apple ID accounts will be renamed: with the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, they will be called Apple Account. This marking will apply to all Apple products and services. Apple ID will no longer be mentioned in the ecosystem.

Apart from the name change, no functional changes are expected in Apple accounts – this will remain a single account used to log into various Apple services. “An Apple Account is an account for accessing Apple services, including the App Store, iCloud, Messages, the Apple Online Store, FaceTime and many others. It contains login, contact, payment, and security information used across all Apple services,” the Apple ID page now says.

In the early days, renaming accounts will likely cause some confusion because the term Apple ID was previously thrown around. Users of the Apple ecosystem should note that whenever they encounter outdated Apple ID references, the Apple Account will be implied. Confidential data is tied to the account, so there should be no discrepancies in this matter – it is possible that scammers will try to take advantage of possible confusion, and caution should be exercised.
