The developers were informed that the release of the new Nintendo console should not be expected until April

The cyclical release of new game consoles among the main market participants is more or less synchronized for reasons of competition, so the Nintendo Switch suffers from its venerable age by the standards of the segment no less than its larger relatives. Game developers received information from the company according to which they should expect the release of a new generation console no earlier than April 2025.

Chris Dring, head of the GamesIndustry.biz resource, stated this in his podcast. In May, Nintendo said it would unveil its next-generation gaming console in the current fiscal year, which runs through March 31, 2025. As Dring explained, none of the game developers he spoke with expect a new Nintendo console to be released in the current fiscal year. According to him, the company itself gave its partners an instruction according to which they should not count on the release of a new console of this brand in the current fiscal year. However, even in this case, many developers expect that Nintendo’s new product will be released no later than April or May 2025.

Introduced in March 2017, the current Nintendo Switch is now seven years old, which is quite old by gaming console standards. In fact, among the consoles of this brand, it is the Switch that is considered the main “long-liver”. As of the end of June, the company was able to sell 143.42 million Nintendo Switch consoles. In the first quarter of this year, 13.5 million units were sold, and in total, by the end of this fiscal year, Nintendo expects to sell 13.5 million consoles. If the Switch reaches the projected sales volumes, then it will manage to become the most popular gaming console, displacing the Sony PlayStation 2 from this position.
