Apple Intelligence for iOS, iPadOS and macOS Sequoia delayed until October

Apple has pushed back the planned release date for its Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence feature, deciding to spend more time fixing bugs and improving the algorithm’s stability. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the feature will launch after the official release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.

The reason for the delay is the need to eliminate bugs and ensure the stability of the new feature, as well as to provide developers with sufficient time for testing. Despite the postponement, Apple Intelligence will be available to application developers next week with the release of the first beta versions of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1.

Interestingly, Apple has never previously released preview versions of subsequent updates before the release of the main version. In this case, we are talking about iOS 18.1, despite the fact that iOS 18 has not yet been released. Gurman notes that Apple’s new Intelligence release strategy means the iPhone 16 line will likely launch without this proprietary AI feature and will require a software update to get it in October.

It’s worth noting that even after Apple Intelligence releases with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, some features will be missing. For example, an updated Siri that uses local data to answer questions and recognizes the contents of the user’s screen will not be released until the first half of 2025, according to Macrumors.
