In X, you can now get an AI summary of any user, but the algorithm is often wrong

Since launching startup xAI last year, Elon Musk has been using his social network X as a sandbox to test the capabilities of the Grok AI model, such as summarizing news and current events. The platform has now launched a “More about this account” feature, allowing paid subscribers to get aggregated information about any user using AI. So far the results are not impressive.

Paid users of Social Network X will now see a “Learn more about this account” button when they hover over a username. After clicking the button, a short overview about the user of interest will be created based on artificial intelligence. According to feedback from those who appreciated the new feature in action, sometimes Grok offers general information about the account, but very often the information turns out to be completely incorrect.

TechCrunch experts tested the new feature. About some of their peers, Grok gave some general suggestions about the types of posts they post on the platform. One of the AI employees was made a specialist on Canada, although he wrote practically nothing on this topic. One editor turned breakfast expert. And the vice president of design and product at the startup Unacademy became an Indian cricketer.

As a result, the researchers came to the conclusion that in its current state the new function does not bring much benefit and requires serious improvement. According to them, given that Grok has access to data from social network X, it is able to provide more detailed information about users. The researchers’ verdict: “This feature needs a rethink.”

It should be noted that Platform X warns about possible bugs in Grok: “Grok version 1.5 is an early feature and may contain bugs. Check his results.”
