Stardew Valley creator vows on ‘his family’s honor’ to never release paid content for the game

Farm life simulator Stardew Valley from Eric Barone has been receiving free updates for eight years now, and the developer is not going to change the established order of things.

Let us remind you that in March the PC version of Stardew Valley received a major update 1.6. Since then, several more smaller patches have been released for the game on PC, and owners of smartphones and consoles are still waiting for the release of a large-scale patch.

«Ports and a new patch for PC are still in progress. I know, a lot of time has passed, I think about it constantly. Every day I personally work on the mobile version. I’ll tell you when there’s significant news (like a release date),” Baron assured.

There has been some dissatisfaction in the community due to the extended wait, but there are also plenty of messages in support of Baron: “As long as all your supplements are free […], people won’t complain about having to wait.”

«I swear on the honor of my family that as long as I live, I will never take money for DLC or an update. Take a screenshot of [this message] and get ready to shame me if I ever break this oath,” Baron urged players.

Baron previously mentioned that he supports Stardew Valley so many years after its release for the sake of players who are still discovering the project for the first time or continue to enjoy it.

Stardew Valley debuted in February 2016 on PC, and subsequently appeared on PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. By the eight-year anniversary, sales of the game exceeded 30 million copies.
