“People will be a little disappointed”: Former Rockstar technical director warned that GTA VI “will not be significantly different from GTA V”

Excitement for GTA VI continues to build, but former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij says players shouldn’t set their expectations too high for the upcoming open-world crime thriller.

According to Vermeil, due to the slowdown in technology development, GTA VI will not be able to make the same powerful technological leap that GTA IV once made compared to GTA: San Andreas.

«The difference between PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 was huge, but between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, not so much. Now there is no such technological leap that would dramatically make everything better and more beautiful,” Vermeil said.

Vermeil urged gamers to adjust their expectations: “I think that [GTA VI] will not be significantly different from GTA V. People will probably be a little disappointed at release, but it will still be the best game on the market.”

At the same time, Vermeil was impressed by the beach scene from the GTA VI debut trailer, in which everyone is doing something different and each character has their own animation. She, according to the expert, looks “gorgeous.”

That same scene

Vermeil, who worked at Rockstar from 1995 to 2009, shared his expectations for GTA VI in an interview with Brazilian blogger SanInPlay, who was recently told by an ex-editor of the studio about the canceled story DLC for GTA V.

GTA VI will be released in the fall of 2025 on PS5, Xbox Series X and S. Events will unfold in the state of Leonidas (see Florida), and players will take on the role of criminals Jason and Lucia. They promise “the largest and most believable world” in the history of the series.
