Lucid unveils the world’s most energy-efficient electric car

The American company Lucid Motors announced record energy efficiency of its new electric car Air Pure 2025. The new product spends only 1 kWh to cover 5 miles (8 km), thanks to which the car promises to become one of the most economical in the world, with a range of 420 miles (676 km).

The Air Pure is Lucid’s most affordable model with a starting price of $69,900. The new version has an updated 84 kWh battery (instead of 88 kWh in the previous version) and innovative heat pump technology, which was previously only available in the older Sapphire version for 249 $000, The Verge reports. This technology, according to company representatives, will significantly increase the power reserve in cold weather.

The new Air Pure will have a record fuel economy rating of 146 MPGe (miles per gallon gasoline equivalent) and an EPA-estimated range of 420 miles (676 km). However, as The Verge notes, by focusing on energy efficiency, Lucid risks losing the attention of premium EV buyers, who tend to value luxury options such as leather upholstery and a premium audio system.

In addition, Lucid Air Pure’s leadership in the fuel economy rankings may not last long. Competitors such as Mercedes-Benz are not sleeping and are also developing their own super-efficient electric cars. For example, the Vision EQXX concept boasts impressive fuel economy of 8.4 miles per kWh.

It is noted that in 2025, all Lucid Air models, from Pure to Grand Touring, will be equipped with the DreamDrive Premium driver assistance system (ADAS) with all-round cameras and a blind spot monitoring system. An updated on-board computer with increased processing power and double the memory capacity promises faster and more responsive interaction with the infotainment system.

The new Lucid lineup will also include the 512-mile (824 km) Air Grand Touring, starting at $109,900, and the 406-mile (653 km) Air Touring, starting at $77,900.
