Digital View introduced 13.3-inch displays on E Ink color screens with wireless power support. It is power supply, not charging. E Ink displays themselves are extremely economical – they do not need power to display a picture, but updating the screen requires energy. The new display does not have built-in batteries or external wired power sources at all, making it completely autonomous. Although, there are also limitations.
The new Digital View ESP6-13 display features a 13.3-inch E Ink Spectra 6 color screen with a resolution of 1200 x 1600 pixels, launching in 2023. It is highly readable in bright light, promising a new level of color and tint for e-ink displays. The developer placed the screens in a durable aluminum frame and equipped each of them with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C interfaces.
The highlight of the device is the ability to provide wireless power in the infrared range. The transmitter is Wi-Charge’s puck-shaped AirCord device, and the receiver, about the size of a thumb, is already built into the screen. One AirCord transmitter can simultaneously power multiple Digital View ESP6-13 displays. In activity mode, when the monitor updates the screen, receives and processes information, energy consumption does not exceed 500 mW.
It is likely that the energy is transmitted by laser infrared diodes, and not ordinary ones. So far, this solution is not intended for home use, but for shops, offices and public places, although at home such a device could also be useful for powering and charging many gadgets at the same time. The ceiling mount of the transmitter will ensure the absence of blind spots, and the laser will always be able to automatically locate the receiver at a distance of up to 10 meters or more. If AirCord is taught to kill mosquitoes in a room, it will have no value at all. By the way, there are no prices anyway. Commercial customers must contact the manufacturer to place an individual order.
