Zuckerberg calls Orion holographic glasses “the next big platform after smartphones”

In a conversation with YouTube blogger Cleo Abram, Meta✴ CEO Mark Zuckerberg touched on several topics, including the company’s latest innovative project – Orion augmented reality glasses. The head of the company is confident that such devices will become a new major platform after smartphones.

Orion is the first fully holographic augmented reality glasses in history, Mr. Zuckerberg said. The device is the result of ten years of research and development; The goal of the project is to miniaturize computing components to project a holographic image on top of a real picture. When asked about the significance of the gadget, Zuckerberg replied that we are talking about a new large computing platform.

«I think the trend in computing is that it’s becoming more ubiquitous, more natural, and just more social; I want to be able to interact with people in the world around me, and I think this will probably be the next big platform after phones,” Mark Zuckerberg said. Orion augmented reality glasses are still at the prototype stage, but their next version has a chance to become a consumer product available to a wide audience, the head of Meta✴ is sure.

The device was unveiled at the Meta✴ Connect 2024 event last week. Analysts have been favorable to Orion and expressed support for the company’s plans – it was criticized in 2022, but Mark Zuckerberg said he is still focused on the same long-term plan. “You’re not as good as they say when you’re up and as bad as they say when you’re down,” he concluded.
