The race for leadership in the Chinese electric vehicle market is not only in the area of increasing the vehicle range and automating the control process, but also in charging technologies. While BYD recently introduced charging stations with a capacity of 1 MW, Zeekr has surpassed its achievements by another 200 kW.

In April, the Shanghai Auto Show will open, and Geely’s Zeekr brand is planning to showcase its next-generation charging stations, which are designed for a peak power of 1.2 MW.
Over the past three years, the carmaker has managed to consistently increase the capacity of its proprietary charging stations, first from 360 to 600 kW, and then to 800 kW. The next step is worthy of respect: in the second quarter, Zeekr charging stations with fully liquid cooling of cables will be presented, capable of delivering up to 1.2 MW of peak power.
Currently, the Zeekr Power brand network has 826 express charging stations for electric vehicles, which allow charging 4,007 cars at the same time. The nuance is that there are currently no passenger electric vehicles on the market that can accept 1.2 MW of power during charging. On the contrary, BYD, together with a megawatt charging station, announced the release of electric vehicles that support such power.
BYD’s technology can increase an electric vehicle’s range by 2 km every second and provide an increase of 400 km in five minutes of operation – Zeekr’s solution is theoretically capable of more. By the end of 2026, the company intends to increase the number of ultra-fast charging posts to 10,000 units.
