YouTube on Quest launches co-viewing feature – up to 7 friends in one VR cinema

The YouTube app for the Meta✴ Quest virtual reality headset has received an important update. Now you can watch videos not only alone, but also with friends. Users will be able to watch videos together in virtual reality, organizing VR movie screenings with a group of up to seven people.

The Co-watch feature, which will work in beta for now, significantly expands the capabilities of the application. To use the new option, you need to make sure that you have the latest version of YouTube installed and look for the “Co-watch” icon (an icon with a picture of three people) at the top of the screen. After this, you should select “Invite people” and invite friends from your list of subscribers to watch together. In this case, invited users must also be mutual subscribers.

There are also some restrictions. For example, co-viewing is only possible for 2D content. If users want to watch paid content, each viewing participant will have to purchase it separately. Despite this, the new Co-watch feature will help you have a good time with friends in virtual reality, and will be especially useful for those who prefer an alternative to the Meta✴ Horizon Worlds platform.
