YouTube is now watched more on TVs than on smartphones

People are spending more time watching YouTube on TVs than on smartphones, according to official statistics for the U.S. YouTube visitors watch more than 1 billion hours of content on the platform every day, according to CEO Neal Mohan.

YouTube has been the most-watched streaming video service in the U.S. for the past two years, and for good reason. YouTube has made some big changes to its TV app to make it more like a full-fledged streaming service. Users can now view comments and descriptions of videos on the right side of the screen while the video itself plays on the left. There’s a “seasons” feature that makes it easier to navigate with a remote, and a co-watching feature that lets creators add comments to games and events in real time.

«For more and more people, watching TV means watching YouTube. But the “new” TV is not like the “old” TV. It’s interactive and includes things like Shorts (yes, people watch them on TV), podcasts, and live streaming, as well as the sports, sitcoms, and talk shows that people already love,” said Neil Mohan. YouTube TV has already amassed more than 8 million subscribers, while YouTube Premium and Music have already amassed 100 million, including a free first month. The service cited the same figures a year ago. The YouTube CEO promised that the service will continue to improve, with YouTube Premium subscribers getting new benefits.
