The Advanced Voice Mode voice interface has now become available to owners of Plus, Enterprise, Teams or Edu subscriptions in the web version of the ChatGPT service. Since its debut in September, the advanced interface has only been available on the mobile version of ChatGPT for iOS and Android.
The Advanced Voice Mode voice interface leverages the audio capabilities of the GPT-4o AI model to offer natural, real-time communication between the user and ChatGPT. The chatbot is able to understand and respond to the user’s nonverbal cues, including things like speech rate. In addition, he can react with “emotions”.
To start a conversation in the web version of the chatbot, you need to select the “Voice” icon in the lower right corner of the ChatGPT request entry field. Next, you need to give your browser permission to access your computer’s microphone. After starting a voice chat, the user will be taken to a screen with a blue ball in the center.
The feature offers a choice of nine ChatGPT voices, each with its own tone and character. For example, you can choose “light and versatile Arbor style” or “confident and optimistic Ember”.
According to Weil, OpenAI plans to introduce voice communication with ChatGPT to free users “in the coming weeks.” Owners of Plus and Team subscriptions can use the Advanced Voice Mode voice format only for a certain amount of time per day.
The system will notify when the user has the last 15 minutes of daily access to voice communication with the AI bot. Free users will be offered short-term access to try out the feature.
