Google regularly releases Android updates and security patches. However, the Android ecosystem is very vast and includes dozens of manufacturers and thousands of smartphone models, so many users do not know what regular system updates are. Xiaomi decided to fix this at least for its smartphones and intends to release updates every month from 2025.
Owners of devices from the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy series are already accustomed to security updates arriving every month, but Xiaomi hasn’t spoiled its customers that much yet – the Chinese manufacturer releases updates every 90 days, including for flagship devices. Given that the company has only been offering major Android updates for four years, it still lags behind the biggest players in the ecosystem.
Starting next year the situation may change for the better. “We could release updates monthly from 2025,” Xiaomi Vice President Alvin T. said on social media X. The company is not yet ready to make firm commitments, but the statement of a major executive indicates that the company will try to release updates more often. In a subsequent publication, he said that he did not want to make unnecessary promises and added that the company “will share information as soon as it is ready.”
