Xiaomi showed its second car – the electric crossover YU7

The Chinese company Xiaomi’s intentions to expand the range of electric vehicles it produces with a second model in 2025 have long been no secret, and this week the design of the brand’s first crossover became public thanks to the automaker registering the relevant documents in the database of Chinese regulators.

Firstly, it became known that the brand’s first crossover will be designated Xiaomi YU7. If the debut sedan SU7 at one time revealed the etymology of its designation as “Speed ​​Ultra”, then in relation to the YU7 there is no such decoding yet, but the first letter in the model name involuntarily evokes associations with the most popular electric car in the world, which is the Tesla Model Y crossover.

Xiaomi YU7, judging by the first official images, has maintained continuity in design with the SU7 sedan and aerodynamically adjusted body contours. Plump wheel arches hide wheels that are quite large in proportion, giving the crossover a sporty look. According to Xiaomi representatives, the crossover will be presented in June or July next year.

The application documentation so far only mentions one modification of the Xiaomi YU7 crossover, which will be produced at the company’s facility in Beijing. Until now, it was believed that in order to better meet the demand for the SU7 sedan and to produce a crossover, Xiaomi would build a second plant in Beijing, which would also be able to assemble 150,000 electric vehicles per year. The documents mention the overall dimensions of the new product. With a body length of 4999 mm, it has a wheelbase of 3000 mm, and a width of 1996 mm is combined with a rather modest height of 1600 mm, which should lead to good streamlining and energy efficiency. With a mass of 2405 kg, the crossover has a maximum speed of 253 km/h.

The capacity of the traction battery of the new product has not yet been specified, but CATL will produce it using three-component technology. All-wheel drive will be provided by two traction electric motors: 220 kW (299 hp) on the front axle and 288 kW (392 hp) on the rear axle, respectively. For now, these are all the details about the new Xiaomi YU7 crossover, which the company plans to present by summer next year.
