The importance of software related to so-called artificial intelligence is high for most companies these days, so the Chinese Xiaomi decided to keep up with the competition by introducing its own open-source reasoning AI model MiMo.

This model imitates a person in the logic of solving various problems. According to Bloomberg, Xiaomi published the results of testing its own language model on its account in the Chinese social network WeChat, which indicate its superiority in speed compared to the o1-mini of the American startup OpenAI and Qwen of the Chinese Internet giant Alibaba. The Chinese DeepSeek R1 can also be considered an analogue of MiMo.

Traditionally, Xiaomi’s management did not limit itself to the debut of the company’s first language model, announcing this week its ambition to create the so-called strong artificial intelligence (AGI), comparable in its capabilities to human intelligence. Moreover, against the backdrop of this statement, Xiaomi’s shares rose by 5%, which also influenced the growth of quotes of many other issuers. This was partly facilitated by the visit of the head of the Chinese state Xi Jinping to one of the “incubators” for startups engaged in artificial intelligence.

In a post on WeChat, Xiaomi said, “Although 2025 may seem like a late stage to realize the dream of large models, we believe that we will pursue AGI in the long term.”

This is the second time in the last couple of years that Xiaomi has entered a new field of activity. In 2024, the company entered the electric vehicle market, a very successful start for a newcomer without relevant experience in a highly competitive region such as China. The absence of the YU7 crossover at the recent exhibition in Shanghai, as Bloomberg notes, did not prevent Xiaomi from confirming that its market debut is still scheduled for June or July of this year.
