Xiaomi introduced a number of new products in China today. Of course, the main stars of the announcements were the Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro smartphones, but the company also announced the addition of a new fifth-generation model to the Redmi Watch series of smart watches. Let us remind you that Xiaomi previously released the Watch 5 Active and Watch 5 Lite models.
The Redmi Watch 5 is currently only available in China. Based on the history of past releases of smart watches in the Redmi Watch series, it can be assumed that the new product will appear in other markets in the future.
Redmi Watch 5 received a slightly larger AMOLED display compared to its predecessor, measuring 2.07 inches with a resolution of 432 × 514 pixels and a brightness of 1500 cd/m². The device screen is protected by 2.5D glass. The frame of the smartwatch is made of aluminum alloy, and the digital crown is made of stainless steel. The device is equipped with a 550 mAh battery, a full charge of which is said to last for 12 days. Redmi Watch 5 also supports GNSS, NFC and Bluetooth 5.3 modules. Water resistance is declared at 5 ATM.
The operating system is HyperOS 2.0, compatible with smartphones running Android 8.0 or iOS 12.0 and newer versions. Like other devices of this format, Redmi Watch 5 is equipped with health monitoring functions. Among them are sensors for measuring heart rate and blood oxygen saturation levels.
The Redmi Watch 5 is priced at 599 yuan (about $83), which is 100 yuan (about $14) more expensive than the previous Redmi Watch 4. In addition, Xiaomi has released an eSIM version of the Redmi Watch 5, which is offered for 799 yuan (about $110).
