X was unblocked in Brazil – Elon Musk made concessions and complied with all the authorities’ demands

The acute phase of the confrontation between the owner of the social network X, Elon Musk, and the judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil, Alexandre de Moraes, has ended. The administration of the platform complied with all the requirements of the country’s authorities, and the blocking was lifted from it.

«X is proud to be back in Brazil. Giving tens of millions of Brazilians access to our indispensable platform has been a top priority throughout this process. We will continue to protect freedom of speech within the law, wherever we operate,” reads a statement from the platform’s administration.

Previously, the owner of social network X, Elon Musk, who also holds the position of technical director at the company, refused to block accounts indicated by the Brazilian authorities and delete materials that, according to the court, violate the laws of the country. Brazil has strict rules regarding online content, but Musk spent months disparaging Judge Moraes before shutting down X’s presence in the country. Access to social network X in Brazil was suspended on August 31, when Judge Moraes issued a corresponding order.

As the conflict escalated, investors in Musk’s companies began to put pressure on the X administration, calling on its leadership to submit to the demands of the Brazilian authorities. At some point, the local accounts of not only the social network, but also the Starlink satellite operator owned by Musk’s SpaceX company were frozen. During the X ban in Brazil, other microblogging platforms grew in popularity, including Bluesky and Threads. The day before, the Brazilian Supreme Court issued a statement saying that the company had met the conditions imposed on it, “and Brazilians can use the platform again.”
