The MIDI interface (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) plays a huge role in the modern musical industry and is a protocol of transmission, editing and storing musical information for connecting electronic musical instruments with PC and other devices. The new version of MIDI 2.0, first announced in 2019, improves the speed, accuracy and possibility of managing musical instruments and other devices. Previously, the protocol was available on Mac devices, and now it will become available in the Windows operating system, reports The Verge.

The company states that the update of Windows Midi Services is aimed at ensuring “the best experience for musicians” and creating a “strong basis for further improvements”. According to Microsoft representatives, the new MIDI version will support not only MIDI 2.0, but also MIDI 1.0 on Windows devices on the ARM platform.

In this test assembly, several other functions were also presented. For example, it became possible to continue working with OneDrive files on different devices, including PC, iOS and Android. In addition, in Microsoft Store, you can now install separate game components, for example, for games such as Call of Duty and Halo.

The current version of Windows 11 Build 27788 (Canary) is still under testing and is available to participants in the Windows Insider program, however, MIDI 2.0 updates and other changes will soon become part of the stable version of Windows 11. Detailed technical details regarding MIDI 2.0 can be found on Microsoft blog (so far only in English).
