Windows 10 users will be deprived of Office support on October 14

Microsoft said it will stop supporting the Microsoft 365 office suite for Windows 10 on October 14. This date coincides with the end of support for Windows 10 itself, which means consumers and businesses who use Microsoft 365 will have to upgrade to Windows 11.

«Microsoft 365 Apps will no longer be supported on devices [running] Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. To use Microsoft 365 Apps on your device, you will need to upgrade to Windows 11,” Microsoft said in a blog post. That doesn’t mean Office programs will stop running overnight, says the company’s support page, which was last updated in December – after Windows 10 support ends, “apps will continue to work as before,” but “issues” may arise over time with performance and reliability.”

Microsoft seriously intends to move Windows 10 users to a more recent version of the OS. The company has declared 2025 to be “the year of the PC upgrade to Windows 11,” and at CES 2025 said that upgrading an old Windows 10 PC is now more important than buying a new TV or phone. In practice, Windows 11 still lags behind its predecessor, but millions of Windows 10 machines do not support the new platform due to its strict system requirements. Microsoft recently emphasized that the set of Windows 11 system requirements is “non-negotiable,” and began showing full-screen notifications to Windows 10 users about the need to buy a new PC that supports the current OS.

Support for Windows 10 will officially end this year, but for an additional fee you can sign up for security updates: consumers can subscribe for $30 for an additional year, and businesses can subscribe for up to three years.
