An update to the Siri voice assistant with new AI-powered features was originally expected in April with the release of iOS 18.4, but unofficial information subsequently emerged that Apple might delay the product’s release. Now the company has officially confirmed this.

Siri, based on a modern AI model, is not expected to be released anytime soon, the company admitted — the development turned out to be more difficult than Apple had previously expected. “Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly; in just the last six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, rolled out new features including Siri conversations and [Apple] product knowledge, and added integration with ChatGPT. We’re building a more personal Siri, one that will have more insight into your personal context, and the ability to perform actions for you within and across apps. These features will take longer to deliver than we thought — we expect to roll them out next year,” Apple spokeswoman Jacqueline Roy told Daring Fireball.
It’s rare for tech companies to talk about products that are coming out in such a distant future — no unofficial source has given such a time frame. And regular Siri users who have been expecting a radical update to the voice assistant soon will have to be patient. iOS 18.4 is scheduled for release in April, with which Apple Intelligence features in their current form will debut in the EU and will receive support for more languages.
