UK PM warns civil servants will soon be replaced by AI

British Prime Minister Kier Starmer said that artificial intelligence could replace some civil servants. “No one should waste their working time on a task that digital technology or AI can do better, faster, to the same quality and standard,” the politician said.

Starmer is set to give a speech announcing that £45bn ($58bn) in savings – and that’s not even including the rollout of AI in the civil service – could be achieved through digital tools and reforms to the government’s machinery. It would create 2,000 tech apprenticeships, reduce regulatory burdens and engage the ostensibly non-governmental organisations that currently hold back progress.

He aims to eliminate factors that hinder their daily work to “deliver excellent, highly effective public services that make people’s lives better.” “We know that many of you feel constrained by bureaucracy, frustrated by inefficiencies and unable to embrace new technologies. Your talent has been constrained for too long,” the politician wrote in a letter addressed to civil servants.
