Twitch will add support for short videos that will be available on the web version of the platform

After the successful launch of photo and text Stories last year, Twitch announced a new way for content creators to interact with their viewers. Streamers will now be able to record short 60-second videos directly in the Twitch mobile app or upload videos from their smartphone gallery, TechCrunch reports.

The service sees this feature as a way for streamers to interact with their audience while away from home and away from their usual streaming equipment. “We want our content creators to be able to share moments of their lives directly on our platform, without resorting to other social networks,” a Twitch spokesperson said.

First popularized by Snapchat over a decade ago, the Stories format has long become the standard across most social platforms, including Instagram✴, TikTok, WhatsApp and Facebook✴. Now Twitch is joining this trend, offering its users a similar feature.

In addition to the ability to share moments from your life, Twitch video Stories also offer a number of tools for interactive interaction with viewers. Streamers will be able to ask questions, conduct polls, create personalized video messages using the @mentions feature, announce upcoming broadcasts, and report schedule changes.

While Twitch is committed to keeping content creators on its platform, experts say major streamers are unlikely to stop using other social networks to promote their content.

It’s important to note that unlike photo and text Stories, which were only available on the mobile app, video Stories will also be available through the web version of Twitch. The company explains this decision by the fact that most viewers prefer to use the web version of the platform.
