TSMC CEO Reminds Compatriots That the Company Will Build 11 New Enterprises in Taiwan This Year Alone

The buzz surrounding TSMC’s plans to increase its investment in the US by $100 billion and build five new factories and a research center on American soil has been raging all week, so yesterday the company’s management decided to remind everyone that 11 new factories will be built in Taiwan this year alone.

As Reuters notes, the construction of three new plants in the US will be spread out over several years. According to TSMC CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors C.C. Wei, the company will continue to build plants in Taiwan, since their capacity is still not enough to meet demand for products. Currently, the company’s existing plant in Arizona is fully provided with orders for the next three years, including the current one. Investments in the US, according to the head of TSMC, will not lead to a decrease in the pace of development of the semiconductor industry in Taiwan.

The main reason why TSMC decided to invest more in American projects was the high demand for the company’s services from customers in the United States. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te also had to make a statement about the absence of political pressure from Washington on the issue of expanding TSMC’s investments in the United States. The island’s authorities are ready to provide the company with comfortable conditions for continuing the construction of new enterprises in Taiwan. The local government has yet to approve TSMC’s new investment package outside the island, but is convinced that such initiatives only strengthen Taiwan’s competitiveness.
