Trump duties led to an increase in retail prices for the GEFORCE RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 video cards in the United States

The largest American online retailer NEWEGG explained the increase in prices for video cards NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 by introducing tariffs for the import of goods from China, initiated by the administration of President Donald Trump. Duties of 10 % began to operate this week, immediately causing a significant rise in price of various equipment.

Users have noticed a change in prices on the NEWEGG website on Wednesday. In response to questions, the company on social networks X stated that “the reason is in the tariffs.” As PCMAG clarifies, increasing the cost of various models of video cards varies from $ 100 to $ 400. Although NVIDIA and its production partners have not yet officially commented on the impact of duties, the NEWEGG message indicates that the industry makes changes to the prices to compensate for the increase in costs.

In view of the fact that NEWEGG purchases graphic processors in China, the company was in a difficult situation, since the RTX 5000 series reserves were instantly sold, and there was no time left to replenish warehouses before the entry of tariffs. A particularly acute deficiency is observed with the RTX 5090 model, which was confirmed by representatives of the retailer in social networks.

Another large manufacturer, ASROCK, told PCMAG that he was considering the transfer of production from China to other countries, including Taiwan and Vietnam to minimize the consequences of the duties introduced. However, the process of transferring factories will take time, and ASROCK warned that during the period of transition of products prices may continue to grow. “We can partially take additional expenses for ourselves, but part of the cost will still be transferred to consumers,” the company said.

Despite everything, NEWEGG’s increase in prices was higher than 10 %, which aroused suspicions of customers. Some suggest that the retailer uses a deficit and a situation with duties as an excuse to overstate prices. At the same time, users became interested in whether Newegg plans to return the SHUFFLE drawing system for the sale of video cards? To which the company answered a hint that “everything can be.”
