Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH has announced the MG10-D family of HDDs, aimed at the corporate sector. The drives are manufactured using conventional magnetic recording (CMR) technology and are filled with air. Deliveries will begin in the third quarter of this year.
The devices have an LFF form factor and a five-platter design. The spindle rotation speed is 7200 rpm. The series includes variants with SATA-3 and SAS-3 interfaces. The capacity is 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 TB, and a 1 TB model is also available for the SATA modification.

The drives are designed to operate around the clock. Compared to the previous generation, the data transfer rate is increased by 13% — up to 268 MiB/s. At the same time, power consumption in idle mode is reduced by 21% — up to 5.74 W. The buffer size is 512 MiB. The AFR (Annualized Failure Rate) is declared at 0.44%, and the MTTF/MTBF (mean time between failures) reaches 2 million hours.
The devices are available with optional support for SED (Self-Encrypting Device) encryption and SIE (Sanitize Instant Erase) secure deletion. The operational load is up to 550 TB. The drives are suitable for tasks such as data analytics, video surveillance, business applications (e.g. corporate email services), etc.
