TikTok resumed work in the US – thanks to the efforts of Trump, the blocking lasted less than a day

TikTok announced the resumption of short video service in the United States after a short shutdown in accordance with the law. The company said on social media X that it was “in the process of restoring service” and thanked President-elect Trump for providing the “necessary clarity” to do so. However, the application is still not available in the App Store and Google Play.

After the Biden administration said enforcement of the ban “will be up to the next administration,” Trump posted that he intended to delay the TikTok ban, promising that he would issue an executive order extending the deadline as soon as he took office on Monday. Video hosting provider Oracle and its CDN partner Akamai have reportedly resumed service, relying on Trump’s promise that there would be “no liability” for companies that support TikTok even before his executive order took effect.

At the same time, the US President-elect noted that for TikTok to continue operating in the country, it will be necessary to sell the application, possibly “to a joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners, in which the US will own 50% of the capital.”

It is currently unknown whether TikTok’s reopening will apply to other ByteDance apps, including CapCut and Marvel Snap, which were also banned and removed from online stores in the United States.
