Thermal Grizzly has released a mounting frame for the Core Ultra 200S and promises a 6-degree temperature reduction

Intel has promised to improve the thermal performance of the Core Ultra 200S desktop processors, but some users with older cooling systems or those accustomed to using third-party processor mounting frames may want to consider a new product from Thermal Grizzly that promises to further reduce CPU operating temperatures.

In recent years, third-party mounting frames have gained popularity as a solution to the problem of LGA 1700 processor socket bending. This problem is associated with the standard Integrated Loading Mechanism (ILM), which puts excessive pressure on the socket itself. As a result, due to bending, the gap between the cooling system sole and the processor cover increases, which leads to a decrease in cooling efficiency.

For the new LGA 1851 processor socket, Intel has two types of mounting. A more modern design is called RL-ILM. This type of ILM provides better contact and less bending compared to the old POR-ILM type.

Thermal Grizzly claims that their new CPU frame for the LGA 1851 socket results in an additional 4 degrees Celsius reduction in CPU operating temperature compared to an RL-ILM design and up to 6 degrees compared to a POR-ILM design.

«The installation process of the contact frame is very simple and requires only a few steps. First, you need to remove the standard mounting mechanism (ILM) from the motherboard. Depending on the cooling system used and the processor model itself, the temperature of the latter can be noticeably reduced when using our mounting frame. When switching from Reduced Load Per Socket ILM (RL-ILM), used on some LGA 1851 motherboards, you can expect a reduction in processor operating temperature of up to 4 degrees, and when switching from a standard ILM mechanism (POR-ILM), a decrease of up to 6 degrees Celsius,” says Thermal Grizzly.

Please be aware that removing the standard ILM from the motherboard may void the motherboard’s warranty. Thermal Grizzly priced the new contact frame at $32.59. The delivery set includes all the necessary fasteners, as well as a pair of screwdrivers for the required screws. The frame can be purchased from the company’s official online store.
