«The App Store handles billions of transactions every year, helping developers grow their businesses and deliver great customer experiences. To further support evolving developer business models, such as exceptionally large content catalogs, options for content creators, and premium subscriptions, we are introducing the Advanced Commerce API,” Apple said in a statement.
The description of the new API mentions three main options for its use. First of all, it is designed for applications with large catalogs of one-time purchases and frequent updates, such as audiobooks or online courses. The second use of the API is in applications with copyright content, access to which is provided in the framework of one -time or renewable subscription. The third use option is to make purchases within the framework of an already current subscription, for example, to obtain access to new channels, regional content, etc.
After last year the European Union forced Apple to resolve alternative payment systems and applications stores within its ecosystem, the company is trying to form a conditions favorable for developers to keep them from the use of third -party alternatives. For example, the company allowed the emulators of the retro-game, and also organized a system of discounts for users with the expired subscription period.
