The day before, sales of the Sony PS5 Pro game console started, the recommended retail price of which is $699. There has been no rush, there is no shortage of consoles, and speculators on the sites who were counting on this are now forced to sell them at a loss, notes the British resource VGC.
The UK section of eBay has a number of sellers trying to sell the console for a profit, but many are willing to sell it for less than the retail price – £700 in the UK. In the immediate purchase format, the Sony PS5 Pro sells for £680-700; There are auctions with bids of £510-670 – these bids are likely to rise before the end of the auction, but are unlikely to be higher than the retail price.
A similar situation appears to have developed in other countries, including Japan. Most Japanese retailers are sold out of the updated console, but some stores had it available on the first day of sales without pre-ordering. On the Japanese trading platform Mercari, Sony PS5 Pro consoles are listed for 10,000–20,000 yen ($65–130) more than the retail price. But taking into account the platform commission (10%) and delivery costs, sellers are either left without profit or again trade at a loss. Below retail prices are also noted here.
However, not everything is so hopeless for speculators: an external drive for the Sony PS5 Pro turned out to be in some shortage. It retails at $79.99 or £99.99, but there are currently listings for the drives on eBay UK for between £150 and £250.
