The fantasy action RPG Fable from Microsoft-owned British studio Playground Games (Forza Horizon series) received a new gameplay video and updated release dates as part of the official Xbox podcast.

Let’s recall that the new Fable was presented back in the summer of 2020 and for the first few years had no release date at all. Last June, the developers announced that they were planning a release in 2025 (the fourth quarter, if rumors are to be believed).

As Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan reported in the new episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, the management decided not to rush the creators of Fable and postpone the premiere until 2026.

According to Duncan, “it will definitely be worth the wait.” The executive expressed “unconditional confidence” in Playground Games and what the team will bring to Fable: “Great gameplay, British humor, and our own version of Albion.”

Duncan believes that Playground Games has created the most beautiful version of Albion ever for the new Fable – deeply inspired by the franchise’s past, but definitely its own.

The Official Xbox Podcast also showed 50 seconds of Fable pre-alpha gameplay, complete with dialogue, combat, monsters, and chicken kicking. The version without Duncan’s commentary in the background can be seen in the video above.

Fable will be released on PC, Xbox Series X and S, and Game Pass. According to Windows Central editor Jez Corden, the combat system is being designed with The Witcher 3 in mind, and the game will feature character selection (between male and female).
