The updated Tesla Roadster sports car will begin mass production five years late – in 2025

Having introduced the second generation of the fateful Roadster model for Tesla back in 2017, the head of the company, Elon Musk, initially planned to launch its production at the end of 2020, but this did not happen. Since then, Tesla has regularly had more important projects, and this year the head of the company still promised that he would show the new Roadster at the end of this year, and the car would hit the market next year.

At yesterday’s quarterly conference call, Elon Musk briefly touched on the preparation of the second-generation Roadster for mass production: “As for the Roadster, we have completed the bulk of the engineering work. I think there are still some changes we’d like to make, but we’re going to get the Roadster out next year. It will be something special.” Tellingly, Musk did not mention his intentions to demonstrate the model at the end of this year before launching mass production, as previously planned.

The longer Tesla waits to launch the second-generation Roadster, the more difficult it will be for this sports car to compete with other high-speed electric cars. In particular, many electric vehicles can now boast the ability to accelerate to 100 km/h in less than two seconds, and there are plenty of them among the products of Chinese manufacturers. Suffice it to recall the recently presented Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the release of which will be launched in the first half of 2025.
