The trailer for the first Indian feature film generated by AI has been released

Before the end of 2025, the Indian full-length film “Maharaja in Denims,” created with the help of artificial intelligence based on the novel of the same name by Indian writer Khushwant Singh, will be released on big screens. Previously, studios twice bought the rights to film the work, but the scale and cost of the project did not allow filming to begin. Artificial intelligence, on the contrary, accepted the application for production without questions.

Today, no one is surprised by short videos created using artificial intelligence. However, with feature films, everything is much more complicated, if only because the generative model cannot maintain the same form, character traits and scenes for a long time. The longer the episode, the greater the likelihood of errors. Fortunately, developers have taken this shortcoming of visualization software into account and have created a number of tools to eliminate it. For example, when generating character actions, special digital tags are now used to help preserve their images when moving from one scene to another, minimizing changes.

The author of the epic work, which tells about a number of historical events in India and their reinterpretation by the main character in our days, became acquainted with AI generation thanks to an old friend, Gurdeep Pall, who now holds a leading position at Qualtrics. Together they founded a startup in Chandigarh, Intelliflicks Studios, which began producing feature-length films using predominantly AI.

The characters in the film are created using separate programs, after which their images are loaded into AI video editors. To improve image quality, traditional software is also used to eliminate minor defects and help with color correction. Some scenes are filmed with live actors whose faces are subsequently replaced by AI. For example, they decided to use this approach for filming ritual dances, which are too difficult to reproduce by modeling.

Experts believe that Intelliflicks Studios has a chance of success, although the director’s work goes far beyond visualization. In any case, such an experiment had to be carried out sooner or later. Why don’t they adapt Singh’s work? The author himself believes that in this way he is paving the way for the democratization of film production, the cost of which today exceeds all reasonable limits.
