The technology of AI-Use and the video RTX Video Super Resolution now consumes 30 % less GPU resources

The technology of RTX Video Super Resolution (VSR – “Super Division of the Video”) allows you to scale video content, “on the fly” by increasing the permission of the video stream. Its main disadvantage is the high electricity consumption – depending on the scaling profile, the video card consumes from 70 to 240 watts. Now NVIDIA has introduced an improved model used to scaling a video that, according to the company, requires 30 % less energy.

VSR is part of the NVIDIA software. You can turn it on in the “Video” section on the System tab. The indicator display option is also available there when using this function. NVIDIA added a new quality setting for VSR – “Auto”, which will use the minimum necessary power of the graphic processor. At the same time, the “High” setting will download the video card to the maximum to achieve the best quality.

The installation of the use of a graphic processor at lower levels will allow you to reserve more resources for games or creative applications. In manual mode, the user can set a fixed level of quality, which will then be used by default.

«[Technology] VSR was updated to a more effective AI model that uses up to 30 % less than the graphic processor resources when setting the highest quality, which allows a larger number of GEFORCE RTX graphic processors to enable it, ”said NVIDIA representative.

According to him, VSR now also supports the scaling of the HDR video. This means that when viewing in the browser of any HDR-Videocontent with a resolution below the monitor resolution, it will automatically be increased to the native resolution of the panel.
