Rumors about a sequel to the open-world action-adventure Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions have been circulating almost since its release in 2020, and the announcement finally took place at the State of Play broadcast in September.
Contrary to fans’ expectations, the game is not called Ghost of Tsushima 2 and is not a direct continuation of the story of the last survivor of his samurai clan, Jin Sakai, but will tell about a new hero in a different period of time.
The events of Ghost of Yotei will unfold in 1603 – more than 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima – on the island of Hokkaido in the area of Mount Yotei. Players will take on the role of a new ghost – a wandering warrior named Atsu.
The world of Ghost of Yotei is replete with vast grasslands, snowy tundras and unexpected dangers. The developers wanted to release something fresh, but familiar, so they opted for a new ghost.
The chosen setting will allow Sucker Punch Productions not only to tell the story of another hero, but also to introduce players to new mechanics, types of weapons and gameplay improvements.
The announcement of Ghost of Yotei was accompanied by a three-minute trailer. They promise a high rendering distance, twinkling stars and auroras in the sky, even more believable wind behavior, and so on.
Ghost of Yotei is currently only confirmed for PlayStation 5 and is scheduled for release sometime in 2025. The developers will share additional details of the adventure in the coming months.
