The Samsung union has planned a new protest despite the start of negotiations with the employer

This coming Monday, the indefinite strike announced by the largest union of Samsung employees will enter its third week, and the start of the negotiation process with the employer this weekend did not particularly affect the protesters’ willingness to hold new actions. On Monday, about 1,500 people should take part in the next rally, as noted by trade union representatives.

The corresponding plans of this association of Samsung workers were reported today by Bloomberg with reference to Yonhap. According to representatives of the Samsung trade union, about 1,500 employees will take part in another protest on Monday morning near the production complex in Kiheung, and workers from other company enterprises will be involved in the rally and will be brought in by bus. Holding a rally does not mean that negotiations with the employer have not been successful, they will continue, but the union will also not give up its intentions to hold a rally.

Two weeks ago, rallies by Samsung employees demanding a review of the wage system and additional days of rest took place in Hwaseong; in the initial stages, they attracted about 5,000 company employees. It was the first mass worker strike in its history, and two weeks later Samsung continues to insist it has not had a negative impact on its ability to produce products or meet its commitments to customers. The parties were due to begin negotiations this weekend. Approximately 25% of all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea belong to a union, and their actions can have a significant impact on the company’s assessment of the situation.
