The Ryzen 9 9950X was 20% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X in Blender with the same power consumption

One of the AnandTech forum readers shared information about the performance of the latest flagship processor Ryzen 9 9950X based on the Zen 5 architecture, sales of which will begin at the end of this month.

The user provided data on the performance of the chip in different scenarios of the Blender benchmark, a complex 3D rendering test that is similar to Cinebench. Apparently, the test used the final engineering sample of the Ryzen 9 9950X. The chip was running with Precision Boost Overdrive enabled and a PPT (Package Power Tracking) target of 230 W. A liquid coolant was used to cool the processor.

As part of the test, the frequency of the engineering sample rose to 5.62 GHz, which is slightly lower than the official declared maximum for the Ryzen 9 9950X, which is 5.7 GHz. It is noteworthy that during the test the processor temperature did not exceed 62 degrees Celsius.

Another user provided data on the performance of the current flagship processor Ryzen 9 7950X on Zen 4 with the same PPT value, which made it possible to compare the results. Overall, the Ryzen 9 9950X was about 20% faster than its predecessor with the same power consumption of 230 W. However, the performance difference decreases at lower power consumption values, as can be seen in the table below.

According to the latest rumors, the new Ryzen 9000 series of processors will go on sale on July 31st. AMD has not yet confirmed this information, but said that the new chips will hit store shelves in July. According to rumors, the price of the Ryzen 9 9950X will be close to the price of the Ryzen 9 7950X at the start of sales or even slightly lower than its predecessor. From the latest news, it is known that samples of processors are already being sent to reviewers for testing, and new products are also arriving at the warehouses of distributors and retailers.
